Enter a World of Chaos:
No-one knows when the Coming of the Rifts occurred. At least no-one on this planet, anyway. An intellectual few have an idea, but that's based on conjecture and dubious research. What is known is that there is overwhelming evidence the planet was in a Golden Age of advanced science. Poverty was all but abolished, cancers were cured, and off-world colonisation was beginning to flourish. Earth was a Utopia. Pacis decorus Terra.
But as to how this all changed, is open to debate. And essentially irrelevant today.
What is generally accepted is that a staggering amount of death was the catalyst for the Great Cataclysm. One of the nations on this small, insignificant world took the psychotic, suicidal decision to declare total war on the their neighbour with their nuclear arsenal. Allies retaliated. The die was cast. The Golden Age vaporised in atomic fire.
By a terrible chance, a planetary alignment was also in session, weakening the bridge between Space-Time. As the death tolls rose to the billions, the energies released by the deaths of so many souls were magnified by the on-going celestial formation.
Before the wretched surviving population could blink, the dimensions ignited and nothing was the same any more.
Demons. So-called Gods. Aliens. Dimensional invaders, and a vast swathe of others which defy classification, swarmed through Rifts that were created by convergences of Ley Lines - rivers of energy; the legacy of the dead. On the brink of utter extermination, Humanity did what it did best, driven by thousands of years of natural selection:
They survived.
In the intervening years, the world has changed as Mankind adapts to their new world in vastly different ways. The government that was once the United States has declared a pitiless humanist, xenophobic and genocidal war against all those who are different to their Humanist regime. Unfortunately, this includes the innocent who have been born in the very energies that are a fact of life in this new status quo. Wars across the globe are fought between mighty and terrifying empires, and ideologies clash just as forcefully as armies.
It is an insane world, with the population driven mad by their own planet. But despite this, everyone knows their place: from the persecuted to the emperors.
Because it is our world.
And it is a World of Chaos.

Are you are a writer who loves Role Playing Games? Do you love sci-fi, horror, swords & sorcery, fantasy, cyberpunk and cross-genre fiction? Do you love character-driven stories instead of plot-driven missions? Do you enjoy the creativity and interaction of collaborative writing? Then this RPG might be for you. Before applying to join this game you should read the site content to better understand just what World of Chaos is about, how this particular RPG is played and what kind of writers we are looking for.
The information and materials on this website are available for current members as well as applicants. Some areas of the World of Chaos forum are for members only. The Chaos Chronicles, Character Bios and FAQ areas are open to the public to read only. Only members are allowed to post. There is no open registration - you must fill out an application and be approved to join.
You should first read the FAQ and Posting Guidelines so you are aware what kind of role playing game this is, how we play it and what we expect from the members. You will find resources about the Rifts RPG, which is the premise this game is loosely based on. We don't adhere strictly to Rifts canon and we take a lot of liberties to create our own content, but we do use Rifts as our foundation and reference source. There are also reference materials for the Current Chapter, Character Bios, Image Gallery, Maps and Cyberpunk. You will find information about contacting the Game Master and site and forum administrators as well as legal and disclaimer information on the Contacts & Legal page. Please take note that this game is for 18+ only.
You can read a sampling (or all) of the past Chapters to get an idea of what kinds of stories we have been writing, and also to see what kind and quality of writing we are looking for. (Be aware, some content, especially in the earlier chapters, is R-rated, but that certainly does not represent the majority of the content.) You should also look at the Character Bios pages on the forum to have an idea of the varieties of characters we have in the game and what kinds of positions and roles might be open.

It will answer your questions on what kind of role playing game this is, the game premise, how we play, how to join, application process, posting guidelines, how to post, types of characters allowed, member interactions, etc. Your application process will go much quicker if you have read the FAQ and are aware of our rules and expectations.
Apply.
This is a members only RPG and forum. There is no open registration. You must use the Application to apply to become a member. Membership is not guaranteed. Applicants must be 18+ and meet certain writing and RPG experience criteria to be considered for membership.
Please read the information on the website before filling out the Application. The website and FAQ should answer most of your questions about the game's premise and what writing and RPG experience we are looking for from new members.
Please take the time to follow instructions and to fill out the Application completely. Blank or inappropriate responses, not providing a writing sample long enough for assessment, not having a valid email address, etc., will result in your application being rejected.
If your writing sample and other answers meet our criteria, I will contact you for further information and to discuss your joining the group. You can ask more questions about the game and members at that time. If mutually agreed that you will be a good fit for the game, I will then request a character biography, which will need to be approved before adding you as a member. It is strongly advised that you have read at least the current chapter by this time so you are aware what is going on in the plot and character storylines. Once your character is approved, I will then add you as a registered member to the forum and you will be able to begin posting.
If your application is rejected, you will be informed why it was denied. You may apply again if you wish. (Unless it's one of those prank apps or just spam, then you will get nothing but deleted from my inbox.)
Post.
The World of Chaos forums is where the majority of the group interaction takes place. The main forum is the Chaos Chronicles where we post our scenes and participate in the storyline. Subforums are the Character Bios, Places and Things, Plot Development, OOC, the FAQ and Tombstone.
- Character Bios is where you will find background information, stats, images and maybe even theme music for each character in the game. There are main characters, alternates and NPCs.
- Places and Things is brief descriptions and images of important and frequently used locations, factions, objects and monsters.
- Plot Development is where we discuss upcoming plot elements, current scenarios, ask questions, clarify details, announce joint posts, suggest ideas for scenes, new characters and future plots and character development.
- OOC, which means, Out of Character, is where we talk about off topic things. Real life. Funny things you read on the internet. Each other. Etc.
- FAQ is where you will find the Frequently Asked Questions, How to Join, Posting Guidelines and Dos and Don'ts.
- Tombstone is where the dead people go. It is the forum where I move the character bios of characters that have died or otherwise been written out of the story. It does not contain all the dead -- some avatars were never recovered and live on only in our memories.
There is also a chat feature for members to use if they wish.
